The sun. A wondrous, celestial body that rises and falls each morning and night with the same rhythm of our heart beats as night closes in.
The night approaches like a wicked "bad guy" leaving everything to be left in the dark. As children, the night brings fear as we look at the chairs and lamps and make "monsters" out of them. These monsters that are hiding and waiting for us to go to sleep. But as we grow up we realize that these "monsters" never really left- instead they have undergone metamorphosis. The chairs and lamps turning into bills and death. The curtains and plants turning into pain and and regret.
Although, there is a short time when all of the "monsters" crawl back to their homes and feel like they are forgotten forever. The sweet, warming minutes of sunset.
When faced watching the sunset, everything else seems to disappear. The hurt inside you seems to melt away from the final warming rays of the sun. The thoughts slip from your mind like a slip-and-slide to no man's land.
Those few moments in time each day remind you that there is something to look forward to. Though all may be bitter in the world, there is an intimate moment between just you and the sun.
Sunsets don't deprive your bank account or require you to sign your name before seeing it. They don't clutter your home or have to find a place to store it. And that's the beauty of a sunset. We don't have to buy a sunset and store it in our home forever so we will always have it. Sunsets are there in the sky each day yearning to be seen and loved by someone.
It's the way that the pink streak in the sky reminds you of your first tutu at your dance recital or the orange spreading through the clouds reminds you of your family trip to an orange field. These feelings come free to us, so why don't we spend a little more time watching the small things that will change our world in a big way.
